Frequently Asked Questions
How is eczema different from dermatitis and acne, and what’s mistaken for it?
Eczema and dermatitis are often confused, but eczema IS dermatitis — specifically atopic dermatitis, a chronic inflammatory condition driven by two core problems: a compromised skin barrier that loses water rapidly through depleted lipid layers, and an overactive inflammatory response at the skin surface. “Dermatitis” is the broader term covering any skin inflammation, including contact dermatitis triggered by a specific external irritant. Contact dermatitis can look nearly identical to eczema — same redness, same itch — but it clears when the trigger is removed. Fragrance, parabens, and synthetic dyes are among the most common contact triggers, so a formula that’s fragrance-free, paraben-free, and free from synthetic dyes eliminates those variables from the start. For eczema and atopic dermatitis, Era Organics Superbalm works on both root mechanisms: chamomile’s bisabolol and apigenin calm inflammatory signaling at the skin surface, while sunflower oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil replenish the fatty acids that seal the outer skin layer against water loss. Beeswax and cocoa butter then add an occlusive layer to slow further moisture escape while skin repairs. Reference: Skin Condition Atopic Dermatitis · PMID 39032836Related
