Beeswax (cera alba) is a natural occlusive wax that forms a breathable, water-resistant layer on the skin’s surface, locking in moisture without suffocating the skin. Unlike petrolatum-based moisture-sealing ingredients (occlusives), beeswax contains naturally occurring long-chain esters that give it a semi-permeable structure, allowing the skin to exchange gases while still reducing moisture loss through the skin (transepidermal water loss). In Superbalm, beeswax sits alongside oil-based ingredients, Calendula Oil, Coconut Oil, and Avocado Oil, in an ointment-style balm for irritated or eczema-prone skin.
