What is electrolyzed water?

Electrolyzed water is an aqueous solution made by running an electric current through water with a little salt dissolved in it. The current splits the salt and water into new molecules, and one of them is hypochlorous acid. It is a clean way to make a skin-native antimicrobial from three simple inputs: water, salt, and electricity. How electrolysis produces hypochlorous acid

Chloride from the salt combines with oxygen and hydrogen from the water to form hypochlorous acid. The salt itself is covered in sodium chloride. What comes out is not ordinary water and not a mixed cleaner, but an activated aqueous solution carrying a defined dose of active chlorine. Three measurements describe that solution. The first is pH level, which sits in a mild 5 to 7 window where hypochlorous acid is the dominant form. The second is Oxidation-Reduction Potential, or ORP, a reading in millivolts of how strongly the solution oxidizes; a well-made batch runs high, in the 600 to 900 mV range. The third is Free Available Chlorine, the actual concentration of usable active in parts per million. Why a stabilized electrolyzed water matters
